The fields are ready, the bibs are out, and the cheers are building. Today, Motsiri Primary School in Segwahleng hosts guest players from Zebediela Mashigwana Primary School in a friendly but fiery double-header of netball and soccer, and the entire community could not be more proud.
It is more than just a game. It is a celebration of young talent, teamwork, and the power of sport to bring us together. Both schools will battle it out on two fronts, the netball court where precision and pace will be tested, and the soccer field where skill and heart will shine. From Grade 4 to Grade 7, learners have been training hard and their dedication is clear to see.
Behind the Motsiri squad are familiar and respected names, Referee Koos Tolo and the sports management team led by Teacher Mokatse(Motsiri) and Maquba (Zebediela). They have been instrumental in preparing the teams, instilling not just tactics but discipline, respect and love for the game. Their commitment to grassroots sports development continues to inspire both learners and parents.
“We are glad that sports, specifically football and netball still takes place in our hood, I wish they grow with mentality of sports”, attendee said.
Sport is desired and it is supported. We are truly grateful to witness this moment, said one of the parents on the sidelines. The atmosphere is electric but peaceful, with parents, teachers and fellow learners gathered early to support, with ululations, vuvuzelas and clapping echoing across the school grounds.
